Frequently Asked Questions
-
My dog is a first time boarder...
Please don’t be concerned, all the dogs that holiday with us are just like your own as this is why people seek us out. Every dog that comes to us has been at least one of the following:
- a first time boarder
- a fussy eater
- timid
- afraid of big dogs
- sleeps on the end of a bed
-
What type of vaccination does my dog need?
A minimum C5 vaccination, with their last vaccination having been administered within the last 12 months.
If your dog needs a vaccination prior to boarding with us, the vaccination should be administered at least 7 days prior to check in.
Proof of vaccination will need to be sighted before your dog can enter our facilities. In the interest of all our guests under no circumstances will dogs be allowed to enter our facilities without a current C5 vaccination.
-
What do the vaccinations cover?
The number increases with each additional element that is covered in the vaccine.
- C1 - Canine Parvovirus - a deadly gastrointestinal virus. This disease is still widespread in the community.
- C2 - Canine Hepatitis - This disease is a viral disorder that mainly affects the Liver. It is caused by Canine Adenovirus.
- C3 - Canine Distemper - This virus affects many parts of the body, with particular problems with the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract and respiratory system.
- C4 - Canine Parainfluenza - This is a viral infection that is found in many cases of "Kennel Cough". It can cause some respiratory problems, but often it is found together with.....
- C5 - Bordatella - which is the other half of the "Kennel Cough" duo. Together, they can cause a very nasty upper respiratory infection.
- C6 - Canine Coronavirus - This virus affects the gastrointestinal tract in a similar fashion to the deadly Parvo virus.
- C7 - Canine Leptospirosis - This is a disease that has an effects the kidneys of the dog as well as the blood system, leading to blood loss and jaundice.
- C8 - Tetanus - This is the same Tetanus that causes "Lockjaw" in humans. Like us dogs are infected via penetrating wounds, which introduce the killer bacteria.
-
My dog does not have fleas or ticks why do I need to flea control before check in?
We request that everyone treat their dog with a flea/tick protection treatment prior to or at check in and that it cover the duration of the stay with drops on the back of the neck or tablet form. If everyone respects this then all dogs will remain flea/tick free and you will not go home with unwanted pests.
-
Can I bring my dog's favourite toys and bedding?
The Hotel you will be checking in to wouldn't dream of asking you to bring your own duvet and sheets, likewise, we do not require you to bring your pet's bedding! Being a hygenically controlled environment, all bedding is provided by Snips & Snoozes Boutique Retreat. Your Little one will be made very comfortable.
Favourite toys are best left at home - we have lots of toys available for guests to play with. As your dog may be sharing with a compatible friend, they will have joint access to toys during play time, so best to keep favourites at home as toys cannot be returned.
-
What should I bring with my dog?
All Payments are due in Advance so any balance due must be paid in Cash at check in.
Original C5 Vaccination certificate or Vet receipt detailing vaccination to be sighted at check in.
Your dog should wear a collar with name tag detailing both first name &surname. (during busy times we can board eg 5 Maltese named Charlie and as we let dogs have lots of play and socialisation it can get confusing who is who)
Medications should be provided with names and instructions clearly marked on a zip lock bag.
-
What type of food is fed to my pet?
We will provide your dog with two Super Premium quality meals per day. We are very used to dealing with fussy eaters and more often than not resolve fussy eating problems during your dogs stay and will advise you on how we have done this when you collect your dog. We stock a wide variety of biscuits in the Advance range to cater to all our guests needs and Tucker Time which is a veterinary food containing Chicken, Vegetables and Rice. Please be assured we will not allow your little one to go hungry. Special medical diets can be catered for, but please contact us to enquire about this.
-
Will my dog be alright once I leave?
You will be surprised - your dog will be fine. Dogs tend to pick up on owner's tensions, and most of the fretting is usually on the owner's part! Usually it takes about 20 mins after you leave for your dog to settle and relax in its environment. We find that once the owner leaves and their dog, hears other dogs and smells all new and exciting smells, it soon forgets its worries. Your dog will become more interested in new friends and toys to play with!
-
If my dog is staying long term can relatives come to spend time with my dog?
We do not encourage this as it can actually be far more stressful on your dog to be played with then left again and not understand why it did not get to go home. Then we have a sad unhappy dog to deal with that was doing just fine before the visit.
-
What happens if my pet becomes ill or needs medication?
We have a veterinarian on call 24hrs a day, 7 days a week should the need arise. Costs incurred for those services, remains the responsibility of the owner. Our vet will communicate with your vet if necessary.
-
Do the pets play together, or can my pet have a play mate?
The aim is for all our guests to have a happy holiday, so if your dog is sociable and happier with a buddy then this is what we will do. We match playmates of similar breed and size and compatible personality together to help ensure your little one has as much fun as possible.
-
Are some dogs physically tired after boarding?
Yes, dogs do get tired. The amount of exercise they get would be in many instances, more than they would at home. We like dogs to receive as much play time as possible and were appropriate they will play in one of our gardens for a large amount of the day, so they have lots of exercise, socialization and stimulation. It usually takes them 2-3 days to sleep off all the play time they have had.
